Submission Requirements Updates!

It’s been a few weeks since the launch of this project, and I’m very excited to see some interest in submitting! To that end, our submissions page is being updated with some more specifics on submission requirements. Additionally, there’s one big change being made.

Previously, our goal was to accept most any form of creative work as long as it was well-executed and related to roleplaying in some fashion. That is remaining largely the same, with one caveat:

Any character fiction or in-character poetry pieces should be accompanied by out of character context within the piece. The formatting, content, and location within the work of this context is up to you (Be creative!), but it must be included somewhere, in some fashion.

The reason for this change is due to the fact that character fiction, removed from the context of the person/people playing the characters, does not distinguish itself enough as “roleplaying-based”. This is not to say that these stories would not be compelling; however, the point of The Adventurer’s Journal is to tell stories that are explicitly centered around roleplaying of all kinds. By requiring out of character context, we allow the stories we publish to emphasize that and follow the goals of the magazine more closely.

Nonfiction stories about experiences with roleplaying, its community, and games you’ve played in are unaffected by this change, as they are already full of the context we’re looking for.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see your submission soon!
